Hi Krafty Friends, Jen from Katahdin Krafts back on the blog today! Today’s card features the tiny skulls from the “Sugar Skulls” Stamp Set. When I saw these sweet skulls, I instantly thought rainbow!
Starting my project I cut a piece of Montval Watercolor 140lb paper with the largest frame from Lawn Fawn’s “Large Slimline with Sliders” die set. Then I purple taped it down to a cutting board (to lessen curl) and sprinkled Nuvo Shimmer Powder in the following order: Cherry Bomb, Solar Flare, Atlantis Burst, Blue Blitz and Violet Brocade.
Then I spritzed the powders with water and watched the pretty begin! I absolutely love watching this process, it brings me joy!
I wanted to make sure all the powders were dissolved, so I used a water brush to move them around my paper. I don’t have an orange shimmer powder (I need to fix that problem!) so I had to mix the Cherry Bomb with the Solar Flare to make my own. I set this aside to let it dry and moved on to the next step.
I pulled out my Altenew Mini Ink Pads so I could create my rainbow skulls.
I started with Crimson (Red Sunset) and inked the first half of the stamp, then I inked the other half with Autumn Blaze (Warm & Cozy). Then I inked the first half of the next stamp with Autumn Blaze again, and continued overlapping the stamps all the way down the line creating my rainbow of colors. The rest of the colors used are: Warm Sunshine (Summer Afternoon), Just Green (Green Meadows), Persian Blue (Glacier Caves) and Deep Iris (Shades of Purple).
Next I heat embossed my images with Hero Arts clear embossing powder.
I pulled out my Kat Scrappiness “Diestressed Edge Nesting Slimline Dies,” before I cut them apart with my snips I made a bunch of frames out of them. This keeps your spacing in place for perfect frames each time. I use a black one on this card, but I cut out several other colors for future use.
After making my frames I snipped my dies, and then cut my shimmering panel with the second from the largest die. I kept both pieces for the card.
I then cut all the sweet mini skulls with my Scan N’ Cut, and decided on a greenish colored cardstock for my card base. I chose a hue that was close to the Atlantic Burst Shimmer Powder.
Now I needed my sentiment! I wanted to keep with my rainbow theme, so I decided to try my hand at Brutus Monroe’s Foil Reactive Embossing Powder, paired with Deco’s Rainbow Foil, on black cardstock. I love the way it turned out! I cut out the sentiment with my regular go to Honey Bee “Banner Dies”, and was ready to glue my card together! I double played my foam tape and gave the middle shimmer background some dimension. I also used some foam tape behind the skulls and the sentiment.
I have been having so much fun working with Septembers Subscription Box!
