Hi there Hollowers! Thanks for joining me as I create another shimmer and shine card using the November Subscription Box. Are you getting into the holiday spirit? I’m not quite feeling it yet, and having temperatures in the 90’s doesn’t help! Doesn’t Arizona realize that it’s almost December?!
Today, I will be creating a slimline card using the stencil that came in the November box. Stencils are one of my favorite products, and I really love the lettering and details of this stencil.
I started out using a slimline die from my stash and cut a Canson XL watercolor panel. Since I will be using a lot of water on this card, watercolor cardstock was the best option. I taped my stencil to my watercolor card panel. Then I took a palette knife and spread Prima Paper Paste over the entire stencil. I let the paste dry for about 10 minutes and then used my heat tool to speed up the drying process.
Adding the Shimmer and Shine
Next, I sprayed some water onto my craft mat and then took a paintbrush and made splatters of water onto the panel. I then poured gold embossing powder over the water splatters and heat set this with my heat gun. I love this technique of creating embossed splatters by just using water.
Next, I traced around the Prima pasted letters “Believe” using a Karin Brushmarker in Magenta. I then dipped a paintbrush in water and moved the ink with the water to create a halo of sorts around the letters.
To add a little more color to the panel, I sprinkled a Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Golden Sparkler and then activated this powder with my water spray bottle. This didn’t give me the effect that I wanted, and I ended up using my Gansai Tambi Starry Nights watercolor set using the darker gold colors. To bring out the letters from the stencil, I then used a Karin Brush marker in the color Henna to add a bit of shadow to the letters to be more easily seen.
Next, I added some white splatter using Dina Wakely’s white acrylic spray. Also, I splattered a little bit of the Starry Nights watercolor in Gold. I added a sentiment strip, a few embellishments, and Nuvo drops to finish off the card. I then adhered the panel to an 8 ¾ x 3 ½ white slimline base.
Sometimes it’s difficult to capture the beauty of shimmer and shine in a picture, but I hope you can see it! The combination of shimmer powder and shimmer watercolors really gives this card a beautiful effect!
Until next week, take care!
