September is coming to a close and this is my last project with the September 2020 Subscription Box! I’m so excited to see what the October box looks like, though! It’s so exciting waiting for it to arrive!
If you didn’t get a chance to grab up the September Box, you can check here to see if it’s available as a One-Off!
For my project this week, I created a video tutorial using the 2 vinyl pieces that were in the box! Normally, I use my Silhouette Cameo with vinyl. I never thought to use my dies and die cutting machine for my DIY projects!
Here is the video tutorial:
To make the candy jar, I started with a glass vase and cleaned it with a cotton pad and some rubbing alcohol. This will prepare the surface for vinyl.
The subscription box came with some iridescent vinyl that I thought would be perfect for this jar! I ran it through my die cutting machine with the Sugar Skull die that also came with the subscription box.
I used transfer tape and a little scraper tool that to make sure the skull was on there good and tight. I could’ve also used a credit card, but this particular tool has a little bend to it, which is better for rounded objects, such as this vase. Then, I placed the skull and transfer tape onto the vase and used my tool to adhere it completely. Once I felt like I got all the air bubbles out, I removed the transfer tape.
Now onto creating the glow in the dark party favors!
I used the Sugar Skull die again with the Glow in the Dark vinyl that came in the subscription box. I cut some black cardstock with the Sugar Skull Outline die. I cut 2 pieces of black cardstock for each skull. I painted some skewers with black acrylic paint and then placed the skewers between the 2 black backings. Using liquid glue, I adhered them all together and then used some clips to hold them shut while they dried.
I also cut out the sentiment “Dia De Los Muertos” from the stamp set that was included in the box. I used Staz-On for this so that it wouldn’t smudge and it would dry quickly.
My kids have been having so much fun playing with them in the dark!
I hope you liked this project as much as I did!
