Create Your Own Patterned Paper with Repeat Stamping

It’s Jess and I’m back with another card tutorial for you! I’m always looking for ways to get more out of my stamps, so creating your own patterned paper is a huge hit in my crafty repertoire. For today’s card, I’m making a Christmas card using the gorgeous floral images from the August 2019 box. Let’s get started!

I grabbed a piece of white cardstock cut down to 4.25×5.5. I like to start slightly larger than I want my final panel to end up so that I can trim off the edges. I find that this gives my patterns a more natural look. I started stamping out the larger branch/leaf image in black ink (alcohol marker friendly!). When I’m creating my own patterned paper, I make sure to start with my largest image near the center of my panel. Then, I work my way out towards the edges of the cardstock. This helps ensure you’re not left with any awkward spaces you can’t fill. Next, I go back in with a smaller stamp and fill in the empty spaces. For this, I used the small berry stamp.

Once all of my stamping was finished, I grabbed a few Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers and colored in my images. I chose some olive greens for the leaves and a nice dark red for the berries. I love this color combination for a Christmas card! I couldn’t decide on a color for the background – I thought navy or a neutral tan might be nice, but I ended up leaving it white and I like how it turned out. I trimmed down the card panel to 4×5.25 and mounted it on a coordinating green A2 sized card base.

I grabbed the ‘Christmas’ Letter It stamp set from Ranger and stamped it on black cardstock with Letter It Embossing Ink. I used Ranger’s Superfine White Embossing Powder and melted it with my heat tool. I fussy cut the sentiment and then adhered it to a piece of vellum. I fussy cut the vellum as well and popped the sentiment up on foam tape for some added dimension. The vellum helpsl separate the sentiment from the background and helps ensure it doesn’t get lost in the business of the background images.
