Hello! It’s Kari today with a bonus trick on using your stencils. I love to dry emboss with a stencil before I color it, so today I am going to show you how I do that.
I took the floral stencil from the May 2019 Hedgehog Hollow kit, taped it to my card panel, then ran it through my Gemini Jr. with the embossing pad. Then I added the color and details to finish off the card. I made a quick video to show you what I mean (below).
To add the ink, I simply left the stencil on my embossed panel, and used makeup brushes to ink over the flowers and leaves in different colors.
Here is a close up of that embossed panel:
Can you see the embossed leaves on this card? In real life this adds a bit of dimension and flair to your handmade card.
Watch the quick video below or on YouTube:
The sandwich for the Gemini, Jr. is: Base plate, embossing pad, paper, stencil, plastic shim, top plate.
Try embossing with your stencil with whatever die cutting machine you have, you may have to play around with the way you layer your plates. I did find that I needed an extra shim for other machines I have, and I liked the results with the Gemini, Jr. the best.
I finished off these cards with dots on the leaves, a silver (or gold) embossed greeting on the green paper that came in the kit, and some clear droplets. I cut down the dry embossed panel to 5.25″ x 4″ so I could mount it on some pearlized paper.
I hope I inspired you to try dry embossing with your stencils. See you next week with some more inspiration!
