Hello Everyone!
I am SO excited to be here today – it’s my debut as a Hedgehog Hollow gal – and I must admit – it is a 1st time for me using this blog platform! There’s going to be a few kinks to work out, so please bear with me!
First of all – a little about me: I hail from a tiny little town that sits on the MB/SK border in Northern Canada. It is named after a fictional charater in a Science Fiction book written many many years ago. Our primary resource here job-wise is mining, and my “real job” is in that industry…. but playing with paper holds my heart 🙂
I absolutely fell in love with this month’s Subscription Box – and as a Canadian … I had to educate myself on just what this celebration means south of us. I LOVe the bright fun colors… and there is so much fun to be had with all the goodies this month! So let’s take a look at the quick design I made for you.
There were so many fun elements to choose from this month, but that awesome sugar skull die and rose stencil were my go-to!
I had a blast coloring the sugar skull stamp, using a bunch of bright fun Spectrum Noir markers!
Once I cut the skull out with the die I got to work creating that background with the rose stencil 🙂
I admit – here in the north – getting supplies is a challenge – that’s why I LOVE the idea of the subscription box! It has everything you need to create some fun projects – so, I had to use what I had here with me to create colored embossing paste – so luckily a bit of fun & bright acrylic paint was in my stash. I added a few drops to some plain ol’ white embossing paste. Boom! We have COLOR!
I applied a thick layer and used a spatula to scrape it through that gorgeous rose stencil, and on that black cardstock base, it just POPS!
I heat set it with a blast from my heat tool – I wanted to be sure it was dry before proceeding.
Once everything was dry, I used that wonderful black die to cut out the sugar skull, and I popped it up with a slight over hang (I wanted y’all to really catch that rose background – because I was loving it! HA!)
A few more little embellishments from my stash were added just for fun (and also maybe to hide those dots of paste that mysteriously just happened to get let behind 😉
Thank you so much for checking out my very 1st design with our Subscription box!
Love, Peace n Ink
