Hello again! It’s Kari V. here sharing my family photo Christmas card this year. But instead of a real photo, I created my family using the stamps from the November 2019 Hedgehog Hollow Kit.
This is so much fun to build up your own family, there’s quite a few characters in this stamp set that you may be able to have a family reunion!
For my card, I built my family in a tree shape in the Misti. I was able to fit all the stamps on at the same time to stamp, and I double stamped it to get a nice dark impression. I used amalgam ink because I knew I was going to use alcohol markers to color the images. Then I began inking some greens and blues onto the borders.
I did not mask off the family members at all. I just used make up brushes to carefully go around the images and slowly build up the color in a variety of greens and blues.
Then I colored up the images in greens and reds. These images are small enough that the coloring goes pretty fast, and you don’t need more than just a couple colors to blend. Do you like that our dog is on the very top of our tree?
I have a quick video to show you just how easy it is to build up the family portrait and color up the images, then I added a few finishing touches. Watch it below or on YouTube:
I hope you enjoyed our family portrait card! My sister (who is a professional photographer) tells me that it is no longer cool to match colors for a family portrait….it should be more natural feeling. But my family and I still match for pictures (when we plan them)! Lol.
Would your family portrait be more natural? I can’t wait to see. If you create your own portrait for a Christmas card, be sure to tag us on Instagram or Facebook.
See you soon with more inspiration,
