Hello crafty friends,
Today I am sharing a card made using a multi-layered stencil set from Hedgehog Hollow. The first thing that popped into my mind when I first saw this set was Oh what Fun! This stencil set is made up of four layers allowing the crafter to make a colorful background with little effort. The VW bus has always been a colorful vehicle and I had thought of coloring each in a different color combination but decided not because I was concerned about the difficulty of so many layers. Now I think I will have to make my next card in multi colors since this stencil set is so easy to use.
My first step was to pick out the colors of the background papers. Since I wanted the VW buses to be blue I chose to make the card layers in similar colors. This is a standard A-2 card with four layers. I decided to frame the stenciled layer with black card stock to make it pop so I also shadowed the sentiment with black. The sentiment was stamped in black ink on matching yellow card stock. The sentiment is from the ‘Feelin’ Groovy’ Stamp Set.
The next step for me was to pick out the colors for the VW bus. Like all stenciling, I color the areas starting with the lightest color. I continue coloring (stenciling) moving through the colors ending with the darkest color. The stencils are marked to make matching up the layers perfectly. The end design is very impressive.
The final step is assembling the layers. I glued the card base and the layer one together. Next I glued the black frame to the stenciled layer. I felt I needed a bit of dimension so I used foam squares to to attach the two sections of layered card stock together. At this point I decided I needed to add a black strip to anchor the sentiment. Using more foam squares I centered the sentiment onto the black strip. For a final accent I placed three enameled dots on the card front.
This card turn out to be an easy fun project versatile enough to be used for various occasions. I am looking forward to making a multi colored VW bus card which I will share. Enjoy creating!
