Jenny here, and today I’m showcasing the absolutely stunning floral stamp set created by the ever so talented Alex Syberia for the Hedgehog Hollow August 2019 Subscription Box. My card is primarily created using watercolor but I also use colored pencils to add contrast and depth.
To create my card, I stamped the image a light colored dye ink. I used Distress Ink in Antique Linen, stamped onto cold press watecolor cardstock (I’m using Fabriano Artistico Extra White) . I then used Arteza pan watercolors to color the image.
I only used two colors for the main bloom – a light coral red and a bright yellow. I watered them down a lot and added a light wash over each of the petals with the red, the yellow and in some places, the two colors mixed together. I let it dry then went back in to add some contrast with slightly less watered down paint, adding in shadows under the flower creases.
I used a light shade of green for the leaves, adding shadows with a darker green near the flower. I added a light brown for the stem.I then used my Faber Castell Polychromos to add in more depth and contrast – I used similar color pencils including a coral, a yellow and a peach to blend the pencil out. I only add a small amount so as to not take away from the watercoloring underneath.
I also used a brown pencil to add leaf veins and deepen the shadows.
For the sentiment, I heat embossed in WOW! Embossing Ink directly over the flower, and heat embossed in Metallic Pale Gold. I also added a sub sentiment heat embossed in gold onto a black strip of cardstock and popped it up on foam tape. As a finishing touch, I added Morning Dew Nuvo Drops.
I kept it simple and popped it up onto a white card base using strong adhesive.
