Hello! It’s Kari here today with a Mixed Media Retro card using the July Kit. There are so many fun stamps (and stencils) in this kit. My very first idea was to use all the marquee signs on a card. Today I’m creating a larger card that measures 4.5″ x 6.5″ and I walk you through the whole process in my video below.

This has me thinking of all kinds of retro colors, but today I decided to go with a very calm color theme. Since there is so much going on with the background and all the signs, I thought a monochromatic approach would be best!

To create this card, I first started on the background. I sprayed some watercolor paper with Distress Ink Spray and Distress Oxide Spray. I allowed that to dry overnight.

Next, I added the stamped designs that would serve as my “marquee holders” using Remarkable Eclipse Black ink. I also inked on the retro stencil using Pop Art Ink, which is very similar in color to the background.

The embossing paste is a great way to get some new and dimensional looks! I only used a small portion of the stencil to add white asterisk stars to the background. Then I set the entire panel aside to dry.

I used two-tones to stamp those signs: Pop Art ink from Maker Forte and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink. I inked the entire image with the Pop Art and then added some partial inking with the Mermaid Lagoon. This way, you get a two toned effect and it adds some flair!

I fussy cut those images and set them aside while I finished the background.

Now that everything was dry on the background, i added some of the star designs with some Versamark ink and sprinkled some Embossing GLAZE over them. I heat set those to get a darker shade, but still translucent.

To finish this card, I added the signs with foam tape and sprinkled some gold gems on for good measure. I cut a black frame to mat the entire panel and added it to my card base.
