Hi Everyone, Jenny here!

I finally found the time this weekend to do real justice to the absolutely beautiful Sophia J Caldwell illustrated stamps in the May Hedgehog Hollow Box.  I’d been super excited to take one of the images to do some no line coloring ever since I grabbed the box, but sometimes finding the time for such a technique is tough – but I strongly recommend it.  It’s fabulous for relaxing and just taking time to enjoy painting.

I stamped one of the border images on a panel of 6″ x 4.25″ hotpress watercolor paper (I’m using Fabriano Artistico Bright White) using Distress Ink in Antique Linen, which I like for no line watercoloring flowers as it blends nicely but shows through translucent images if you want it too (you can see it on the leaves for example).  I flipped the border image and then stamped it on the other side.

For watercoloring, I used a size 2 Silverbrush and Altenew pan watercolors.  For each image, I painted a light wash over each of the images, and then dropped in a slightly darker color.  I then let it dry and went back in and added another layer with a slightly darker coloring again in the shadow areas.

I used the fine point on my brush to add details such as the leaf veins, the centres of the large flowers and the seed pod stems.  I also used a white gel pen to add a few highlights here and there.  I also added some splatters in green and brown to add a little texture to the panel.

The sentiment is from the same set in the box and I heat embossed it in WOW! Metallic Rich Pale Godl in the centre, where it nestled perfectly in-between the two images! As a finishing touch, I added a few Morning Dew Nuvo Drops to add a little embellishment without detracting from from the painting.  I kept the panel at 6 inches tall to avoid trimming off any of my painting and backed it onto a white notecard.

I really love how this turned out – I hope you guys think I did the image justice!
