Hello! It’s Kari here today with another Art Journal idea for you. Today I’m using the parakeet ephemera from the February Kit to create an art journal page. I’m adding some foiling to this, too! You may have thought you couldn’t add foiling to an art journal, but I’ll show you how in this video. I’m also creating a foiled card using the paper pack in the kit.

These products make it SO easy to foil! I love that. Watch the video below or in HD on YouTube:

Art Journal

To start, I inked up my Art Journal page with three colors of Distress Ink. I chose greens because they reminded me of a parakeet! I then added some DecoFoil Transfer gel through a beautiful floral stencil (linked below) to the left side of the page. Then I set this aside to dry while I worked on the card.

For the card, I chose one of the large paw print papers from the paper pack. I used an ergonomic blending brush to ink on the same three green colors as my art journal. Then I wiped the excess ink off the paw print with a microfiber cloth to prepare it for foiling. I chose some teal foil and cut it to size, then ran it through the Minc Machine on level 3.

I stamped the heart with the paw from a stamp set from the kit using CP ink in Tutti Fruitti and Orange Twist. Then I cut out the center so I could put the sentiment through it.

I cut down the paw print paper to fit an A2 sized card, and attached it to the card base. I added the sentiment and heart to the front with foam tape. Such an easy card to make with the supplies in the kit!!

Back to the Art Journal

The DecoFoil gel was dry at this point, so I cut down some Glass Slipper foil to fit over the stenciled gel and ran it through the Minc machine.

I added some paw prints in Iced Spruce Distress ink to the right side of the page, using one of the stencils from the kit. Then I glued on the wagon ephemera and popped up the parakeet with foam tape.

I used the Poppy bloom & Grow stamp set for the sentiment: Worry Less & Smile More. I think that is a very appropriate sentiment for me this year! I stamped it with Eclipse Black Remarkable Ink, and inked on some yellow and orange Distress Inks. Then I popped those on the page with foam tape.

The last thing to do was punch the holes so it could fit into my journal binder. I previously made a template to trace so I knew exactly where to punch the holes. Then I added it to my Art Journal binder!

I always had a parakeet growing up. We actually had three that I remember: Raindrop, Rainbow and Winkie. My Dad loved parakeets so we learned to love them and take care of them, too. So this journal page makes me smile.

I hope you enjoyed! I’ll be back with more inspiration soon,

Kari V.
