Howdy! It’s Jill from Jill Cameron Creations. Today I’m sharing a one layer slimline card. I’m using the Pug Life stamp set from the July kit from The Hedgehog Hollow. One layer cards don’t have to be scary and they give you really great practice on card design.

Masking and Copic Coloring

When you are designing a one layer or single layer card, you have to do your basic design before you start to stamp the images. The easiest way to do this is with the masks of each image. Stamp each of your images on masking paper. I use Avery Temporary Labels because they are a great price point for the number of sheets you get in each package. You can see this process in the video linked at the top of this post.

Stamp the front most image first. Think of it this way, you want to stamp the images that are complete first. Then place the corresponding mask over the stamped image. Proceed to the next images and repeat the process until the stamped scene is completed.

I like to color my images and then create some kind of background. To do that, I replace all of the masks and then ink blend some light-colored ink around the images. This grounds the images so they don’t look like they are floating in mid-air. Finally, I color in the shadows. I use cooler colors for the shadows to further ground the images to the page. Of course, you can draw in more detail or stamp additional elements to create a more complete scene.

I hope you enjoyed this fun card. Don’t forget to get your Hedgehog Hollow kit today.
