I have a short story for you about the inspiration for this card. It’s actually my Mom’s gift wrapping. That woman wraps the pretties packages! She wraps everyone’s gift in their own specific paper that all color coordinates together. But it’s the bows and ribbon that makes her packages amazing. If there were an Olympic sport for ribbon curling, my Mom would win!
Now, I did not get the skills to create amazing bows BUT I can make some pretty awesome cards (she said very humbly).
This card is one that is simple to make so making a bunch at one time would not be difficult.
I started with a panel of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. You could also use Kraft cardstock but I like the weight of the Desert Storm. Using the Christmas tree stamp from the Hedgehog Hollow October kit, I stamped a background panel in Versamark ink. Then I poured white embossing powder on it and heat set it the embossing powder. Don’t forget to use an anti-static tool before you start.
Next, I die cut the panel using the largest of the Lawn Fawn Fancy Scalloped Rectangles dies. In the video, you see that I stack several pieces of Desert Storm cardstock together but if you are planning on making a bunch of cards, keep simple and skip that step.
I mounted the die-cut panel on a piece of red cardstock and added strips of glitter cardstock to create the ribbon wrapped around a package look I wanted to create.
For the sentiment strip, I just stamped in green ink on white cardstock and trimmed it out in a strip slightly wider than the sentiment. Then, I cut a strip of gold glitter cardstock just slightly wider than the white cardstock. I fishtailed both of the strips so the gold glitter cardstock is longer than the white cardstock.
I used gold thread to create the bow to finish off my gift-wrapping-Mom-inspired card. And a little more bling using a dark red jewel in the center to finish it off.
I hope you are inspired to create your very own package inspired cards for Christmas this year. Don’t forget to head over to the Hedgehog Hollow and get your stamps and special interactive die for the month of October.
