Hi Everyone! I hope your new year (and new decade!) have been treating you well! Do you have any crafty goals for 2020? I was thinking about mine, and one of them definitely was to send more cards! I have a huge stash built up, and I’ll be setting some time aside each week to send them out. It can be done!
With that being said, I have two cards to show you today that I’ll be sending to two very good friends of mine – I created them using the FAB January 2020 Hedgehog Hollow Subscription Box. These are super fun and easy to make too.
You’ll notice both of the backgrounds are very similar. They use large solid stamp from the box, and this people is a real game changer. Add it to your stamp positioner/MISTI, add some ink colors, spritz with water, then stamp on watercolor cardstock (I’m using Tim Holtz watercolor cardstock). It’s as simple as that – the inks blend on the stamp and create a faux watercolor look. On the card on the right I used three ink colors in purple, pink and blue. On the card on the left I used just two inks – a bright yellow and a bright pink, my favorite combo for creating a third gorgeous corally color. All the inks I used are by Altenew.
I wanted to add some pretty gold and bling to my first card, as a gorgeous contrast against the bright colors. I used the stars stencil from the box and using a palette knife, added some Gina K Designs Gold Glitz Glitter Gel, turning the stencil to add stars where I wanted them. I then set it aside to dry.
I stamped the moon image from the set in WOW! Embossing ink and heat embossed it in WOW! Metallic Rich Pale Gold embossing powder. Then using the exact same inks I’d used on the background, I ink blended them over the moon, letting them blend in the centre, and trimmed it out. The embossing resists the ink and you’re left with a quick colored and super pretty moon! I then popped it up onto my dried panel with foam squares. I finished it with this AWESOME sentiment (familiar to anyone ??!) heat embossed in WOW! Opaque Bright White on black card stock.
My second card is even easier than the first. I die cut out my background with a stitched rectangle die slightly smaller than an A2 panel. I like do all my die-cutting before heat embossing so I don’t smush my heat embossing.
Using a MISTI, I stamped the huge sentiment from the January box in WOW! Embossing ink over my now-dry watercolor panel. I used lots of anti static powder to make sure powder didn’t stick where I didn’t want it. I then heat embossed the sentiment in the same WOW! Metallic Rich Pale Gold embossing powder. I then put it back in my MISTI and restamped and re-embossed. I did this three times in total to build up lots of dimension!
As a finishing touch I added some Honeysuckle Nuvo Jewel Drops to co-ordinate with the pink ink and popped the panel up on craft foam to a white card base.
I seriously could have done about 50 cards in no time with that background stamp – it’s brilliant, and definitely a stash staple. I can’t wait to see what you use it for!
