Happy July! I’m playing with the July Hedgehog Hollow Subscription Box today. I have two cards to share with you to show you two ways to add bright colors to black cardstock!

For the first card, I used Outrageous Orange Kaleidoscope powder mixed with some Ranger Transparent Texture Paste with the set of two stencils. I did the orange paste first with one stencil and allowed it to dry. Then I added some texture paste colored with the Pluto Blue Kaleidoscope powder with the second stencil layered on top of the first pattern. As a result, I got this fabulous wavy background in bright fabulous colors on black cardstock!

You do need to allow the paste plenty of time to dry, but it is so worth the wait! This is always a good time to go take a walk or to have lunch!

I could not resist using that fabulous red metallic paper that came in the kit. The sentiments were heat embossed from the Midcentury stamp set in gold on that red paper. I fussy cut it out and added it to white cardstock to make it pop more on the dark background. The white white was then fussy cut, leaving a little border around the edge of the red.

I love the way it pops off the dark card background! Both cards have been finished off with some Bittersweet Orange and Thistle Blue Crown Jewel Gems I have in my stash from Maker Forte.

For the second card, I just had to use the other stencil. I’m in love with this!! Later today, I will be playing with this stencil in my art journal. There is a pile of backgrounds I made with acrylic paints and my gel plates and this will be a perfect layer on top of those backgrounds.

The first thing I did was to add a layer of white pigment ink using my stencil. You need to give the pigment ink time to dry, but the white ink will allow your ink colors to really pop off the black card base.

This particular card uses the Rah-Rah pink, Yellowstone yellow, and Limewired neon inks. You can see that I heat embossed this sentiment with the black, which I liked much better than the gold.
