Hi friends! Today, I am sharing a card using colored pencils on kraft cardstock. I broke out my colored pencils, which I haven’t used in a while, and thought it would be a nice change to color with them onto my kraft card base.
For my card, I cut down a piece of kraft card stock and created a 5×5 square card.
I first took a full piece, cut the long end to 10 inches, rotated it, and cut it down at 5 inches, and then scored it at 5 inches to create my card base. Then, I took the candy border stamp from the November 2019 Box and I stamped a double border, both and the top and the bottom of my card base using very black ink.
Initially, I had made the decision to color these images in with my Distress Oxides, as they work well onto darker card stock colors, but I changed my mind and used my colored pencils inside. I did color both with Derwent Inktense Pencils, and also my Prismacolor pencils.
Once I was happy with the coloring, I needed to decide what to do for a sentiment, so I used the “Joy” sentiment that is in the same stamp set as the candy border, and I created a border of the sentiment as well.
To add a bit more design and to draw in the eye to the sentiment, I just cut down some thin strips of black cardstock and glitter cardstock and adhered them onto my card. I really think that helps section out the sentiment, and with the addition of the glitter card stock, it brings in some sparkle too for the pretty simple design.
I hope I have inspired you all to not only create a square card but to break out those colored pencils if you hadn’t used them in a while, like myself 🙂 I also love the contrast between the kraft and the vibrancy of the pencils!
Thank you all for stopping by today! Happy Thanksgiving to those in the States, and I will be back soon with another card design for you!
