Hi Hollowers!
Welcome to our final launch post; we shall end the week with a craft room tour which I have split into three parts so stay tuned for that starting tomorrow! After that normal service will be resumed next week; next Tuesday we will have a tutorials agin for you and our daily Facebook lives will continue. Next week is ink week; each day we will focus on a different type with some tips and tricks thrown in too. Without further ado i’m delighted to say I am part of Sizzix’s affiliate team; it is a dream come true to be affiliated with such a massive company and someone who has revolutionized the crafting world too. I remember going to a trade show where the first die cutting machine was, back then we had a lever to push down nd for larger die you had to move it along and push down several time! Who else members this?
It’s only about 2 years ago when I finally got rid of mine! However, I did keep all the dies, they are still great basic shapes and I still get them out now and again! Of course our launch would not be complete without a giveaway so I have this lovely Sizzix stamp set to giveaway to you and this lovely lawn fawn ink pad too! To enter just leave a comment on this post of what your favorite dies are before Midnight EST on March 15th 2017, a winner will be drawn at random and announced in Thursday Facebook live!
Who I was browsing the Sizzix site for something to make for you I found this gable gift box and I just knew it would look delightful with some flowers on it, however, it being me I wasn’t content with using these beautiful hydrangeas in a conventional way! I decided to grab my distress oxides and try something a little different…of course! The first side I made with the re-inkers, this gives you more intense and brighter colors; I decided to use blues and pinks as these are the core colors; I vividly remember my grandfather going out and buying the appropriate skill enhancers for each spot around the garden so he got a variety of colors of hydrangea bushes (they give you different colors depending on where the soil is alkaline or acidic!). So here is picture one (left is this technqiue, right is below)…
On the other side I worked with my distress oxide pads using the same approach but adding in some green and purple too I made this alternative hydrangea; I then used some tone on tone stamping and some black fine detail embossing powder to finish it off (left is this technique, right is the one above)…
Each side was edge using the vintage photo oxide pad, it still gives the lovely aged look on the edges but its a more delicate finish. You could use either but I wanted to keep with the oxide theme! Finally I edged some basic shapes dies I have with oxides to blend them in with the hydrangeas. Of course you need a tutorial video to step you through each step so here we go…(NB. I made a mistake while filming, it went horribly wrong but I decided to go with it and show you my rescue because it happens to you too sometimes…doesn’t it?)
I hope you enjoyed watching it as much as I enjoyed the making process, it’s pretty inky but great fun! I hope we have inspired you to grab some distress oxides and try your own, Simon Says Stamp still has them in stock (as of writing this post) and you can still use the code ‘LEAP’ for $5 off (thats nearly one pad for free!). Remember you need to enter the code under your shopping cart, check out last week Facebook lives if you are unsure where to enter it, we walked you through exactly where it is.
Thank you so much for following along our launches, we really appreciate each and every one of you, every time you shop please remember to use the banners on our sidebar so they know you came from the Hollow and would like our tutorials to continue, I also wanted to remind you they are affiliate links which I explained in this post. Thank you again for your support of the Hollow, we wouldn’t be here without our loyal followers, and if you just found us welcome, we hope you will join us again soon!
Happy stamping!
Wow . These are beautiful. I really love reading your blog. Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank you so much x
I have the sizzix big shot which I love. I used it when I was making wreaths, candles and stars for my Christmas cards. I have sizzix, Stampn Up and Close to My Heart dies which I often use. Thanks for the introduction to HH and I look forward to seeing what comes next.
CTMH is still on my list!
I love the gable boxes; what a great favor for parties! Thank you for letting us see your “oops” too – it’s reassuring to know that even experienced crafters make mistakes, and how they fix them.
Thank goodness its not only me!
Love these pretty boxes! Beautiful hydrangea and so pretty with the new Distresss Oxide inks! I love hydrangeas too and have several planted in my yard. My hubby puts something on them to make them more blue, but I love all the color variations!
They are such a lovely flower and I love this stamps et too
I have a Big Shot and Stampin Up dies and Nestabilities. I love them all!!
Great selection there
Spellbinders are my favorite dies.
I have some too, they are great
Enjoyed the beautiful flower!
Thank you
Hello! Congratulations once again!!? I have the Sizzix Big Shot and some of their dies. Also dies from Stampin Up. Love the Distressed inks you have been demonstrating:)
Thank you again! Thanks for stopping by so regularly
LOVE these boxes! Love hydrangeas too. I used to have that same red Sizzix die cutting machine. Sizzix has always been one of my favorite companies. I am hooked on the wafer thin dies now, but still use my big guys, (especially the bigz Tim Holtz/Sizzix dies).
Nice to hear the bigz still come out with all the thinlets we still have
I love my dies from SU and CTMH!!! I still own a sizzle had to have when they came out years ago , but I do not use it !!! Thanks for all you posts
Still wanting to try CTMH dies and stamps
Hmmmmm….a favorite die. I use old sizzix dies too. There’s a teddy bear, butterfly and cornucopia; along with geometric shapes I use. But then I use thinlits and other dies too. I seem to use a rectangle set of dies to use on a4 cards a lot. But it just depends on what I’m creating. All the sets that come with matching stamps are great! I could go broke in the sizzix world.
I have some of those old ones too. I think dies could bankrupt us all!
Wow, Sizzix – Congrats! I like the way the stitched dies add so much to a card, but as yet I haven’t bought any. I will soon.
Thank you! I love these new basics, I will be linking them all up soon
I have a hard time choosing my favourite dies. The companies I do prefer are SSS, MFT and Lawn Fawn. All the other companies like Hero Arts, Concord & 9th, Neat and Tangled, Ellen Hudson, Your Next Stamp, Stampin’Up, Mama Elephant, Ranger, Elizabeth Crafts have some lovely dies too but when I look at my purchases, they mostly come from those 3 first companies.
A great selection in there!
Wonderful that you are affiliated with Sizzix. I love their products. Thanks for the fun video and the reminder to get out my old Original Sizzix dies and use them. I have some fun ones that I haven’t used in a long time.
Looking forward to seeing what you make
I have a hard time choosing my favorite die too. There are so many .. SU, Sizzix, Spellbinders, Lawn Fawn, Gina K., also many I am sure that I do not even know of yet. They are all my favorites…..depending on which one I am using.
Awesome selection!
So reassuring to see others have mistakes and survive. Thanks for leaving it in your video. Most of my recent die purchases are Stampin’up. Older dies are a mix of Sizzix, Spellbinders and Lawn Fawn. Keep the inspiration coming!
A great selection of dies there! I was torn whether to leave it in but seems we all amke them, its how we rescue them that counts!
Sizzix products have turned paper crafting into an entire new realm of fun! Glad to see you as an affiliate
They are awesome!
My favorite dies are from sized, SU and nestabilities.
I have lots of all those too
i love using the pillow box die. it is great for small jewelry gifts, candy treats, and gift cards.
I love these basics to to decorate up for favours and occasions
Beautiful box. I still have my original read Sizzix machine & dies, although I have moved on to the Big Shot. I love the way dies have become so popular with paper crafters. I have some from several different manufacturers, but I think Memory Box dies are my favorite.
They are beautiful, I have lots of those too!
Stampin Up! Thoughtful Branches. 🙂
Lol!
I’m so new at all of this!! I’m still learning about die cutting machines. I’m really loving all the flower dies. There are so many, its so hard too chose!! Thank you for the blog posts. facebook live posts etc. I have learned so much!
Thank Gina!
I Love Sizzix and Lawn Fawn!!! Thank you for the giveaway!
You’re so welcome
So cute! Can’t with for the inks!
They are amazing!
So excited about your Sizzix affiliation! I am currently scouting a die cutting machine to add to my studio — weighing all the pros and cons and seeing what the differences are between them. Sizzix so far is the top of my list…so Ill stay tuned to see what gems you come up with. Love the little boxes you and Maddie shared today. So, thinking it’s fair to say that would be my favorite die at the moment. Thanks again for sharing your talent!
The big shot is my favourite (I have quite a few!) I love my vagabond, I am told the 2 is better than my 1 but i’m very happy with it, i’d be happy to try to answer any questions you have too
Cute boxes!
I have a Cuttlebug. Have had it for many, many years. Still works great but is a bit small for some dies, especially long ones. I have a Big Shot, plus or pro on my wish list! I am trying to save for one. I like the Vagabond but always worry about the motor going out. I never thought of trying to “unwarp” my plates! I have had one crack all the way in two. Love all the Sizzix products!
I loved my cuttlebug too, the bigshot is great but I have to say my vagabond has taken my die cutting pleasure to another level, I also have a pro but it never gets used!
My favorite dies are spellbinders
I love them too!
I love all sorts of dies , especially the dies that complement a stamp set!,or make a card into a neat fold, something different. Thanks for the opportunity to win, you have had a great start to you new adventure. I am so glad the companies have realized what a treasure you are!,
Thank you so much for your kind words
Enjoy your videos. I have stamping up dies, but have started branching out to other companies like Lawn Fawn, Die-namics, etc.
Great selection of companies there!
Such talent knowing what you do and the outcome!
I like be the shape dies…..squares, circles, ovals, hearts, and stars!
Love my dies. Most of mine are SU or Crafter’s Companion. I need to really start using them more than I do. I am new to the Hollow but am liking the posts and the ideas so far. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
I have dies from many different companies. Whatever design I like, I buy. The company doesn’t mater.
Love these!!!
I like any that I can use to build boxes.
