Hello, it’s Kari. Today I’m excited to announce that I have a brand new nephew born just last week! So I wanted to make a “welcome to the nest” card using the April Hedgehog Hollow Box with Art Impressions.
These sweet birds and birdhouse make a great baby card! I pulled in a few dies from my stash for the sentiment and the clouds and used lots of layers for dimension.
For the background, I inked up some Neenah White Solar cardstock with Distress inks and some makeup brushes. I used a mixture of yellow and blue Distress Inks. Then I splattered onto the background using the same colors of ink and a paintbrush.
I colored up the birdhouse and added lots of shading and some polka dots on the awnings for interest. The birds also got their own polka dots (I couldn’t resist!)
To tell the story of the birds preparing the nest, I die cut some of the branches from the kit and glued them onto the birds near their beaks. I die cut the branches once out of brown cardstock, and once out of green. Then I simply cut the green leaves off and added them to the brown die cuts. I added some shading with Copics on the leaves.
The polka dots were easy to add with a white gel pen. For the center of the flower, I used white Nuvo drops. I also used the white Nuvo drops on the door knobs.
To finish, I popped up the top layer of the clouds and the birdhouse with foam tape.
I die cut three layers of the word “welcome” and glued them together to make the sentiment dimensional as well. Three small drops of Nuvo Jewel Drops finish it all off!
Here I made a card for baby boy, but just imagine how cute this would be in shades of pink!
I hope you enjoyed this welcome to the nest card for baby. The April kit is so fun to build scenes with! See you next time with some all-new projects and ideas,
